What to do when fewer than 12 months of data are available?
- Delivery fuels should not be entered with less than 12 months of usage data, unless there is no base load usage and you have usage data covering the majority of the heating season.
- Metered usage can provide usable information as long as there is at least one month with significant heating/cooling usage and one month with only base load usage. If these conditions are not met, then it is probably better not to enter the data, because the utility analysis may not handle it well.
- Note that charts comparing monthly modeled usage to bills will only display data for the months during which bills are provided.
What to do when 12 months of data are available, but there was a change in occupants?
- Delivery fuels should either be entered in full or not at all. Delivery fuels tend to be dominated by heating usage, which doesn’t change dramatically between occupants. Calibrating to the full year of data is likely to be better then no calibration in most cases.
- Metered usage should be entered in full. First Omit bills during which the house was unoccupied and check the analysis results on the Analysis tab. If the BPI-2400 standard is met for heating and/or cooling (as appropriate for the climate), then this is a good indication that usage did not change significantly between occupants and full bills can be used. If this is not the case, then follow the guidelines above for incomplete bills to determine if the bills under the current occupancy are sufficient for analysis. If remaining bills are sufficient, then Omit the older bills. If they aren’t, then remove bills entirely.

If you have run the Calibration, then it’s probably best to start from a new file. I could give you an extensive list of actions that you could take to restore most of the defaults, if you think that would be preferable.
