Massachusetts Chooses OptiMiser Focus for Statewide Community-Level Energy Management
OptiMiser provides a OptiMiser Focus instance for the State of Massachusetts customized and branded as MassEnergyInsight.net (https://www.mass.gov/service-details/massenergyinsight).
MassEnergyInsight (MEI) aggregates more than 1,800,000 utility records each month from every major Massachusetts investor-owned utility. MEI also receives data from 22 municipal utilities, accommodating dozens of different data formats and data transfer protocols.
MEI is a core part of the State’s Green Communities program.
OptiMiser currently collects and analyzes data for hundreds of state, municipal and regional entities with approximately 15,000 facilities and over 50,000 accounts. We collect and update more than 1,800,000 utility records each month, and have established protocols for integrating data from multiple investor-owned gas and electric utilities, as well as dozens of municipal utilities and other energy suppliers.
OptiMiser Focus was previously available to all 234 New Hampshire communities during a 30-month federally funded project for the New Hampshire Office of Energy and Planning. OptiMiser Focus (then under the name “Peregrine Focus”) enabled participating communities to quickly understand their energy use, emissions, and costs, and then use that information to put effective energy efficiency programs in place. The tool ultimately tracked nearly 1,500 buildings and more than 2,900 energy accounts representing more than 54 million kWh/year of electricity, more than 1.7 million therms/year of natural gas, and a total energy spend of more than $10.5 million/year.
The Boston Housing Authority is using OptiMiser Focus to centralize, manage, and report on energy use, emissions, and cost data for its portfolio of more than 9 million square feet, 66 individual properties, 11,690 apartments, and 4,200 individual utility accounts. The City of Providence, Rhode Island, is using it to track energy use and costs for its portfolio of 150 buildings and 700 utility accounts.

Whereas the MassEnergyInsights implementation focuses on providing individual facility and portfolio managers with direct visibility into energy trends, the PowerOptions implementation focuses on providing information across a diverse membership. Usage and cost outliers are surfaced so that PowerOptions can be proactive in addressing member issues. Through OptiMiser Focus, PowerOptions is able to target members and facilities for savings opportunities.
