The right way to add solar screens

I made a mistake in the first APS training when I suggested you could add solar screens to the Window database.

The best way is to use the Window Type control to set window type and the External Treatment controls to set solar screens. Set the improved Window Type to No Improvement if you aren’t changing windows. Then set the Exterior Treatment controls to the type of screen you’re using. Use the “>>” buttons to set the shade coefficient. Then go to the Bid Form and add your cost for the solar screens. There’s a line item for them, but no automatic cost or area.

In the near future, we will be adding a separate area in the database for solar screens, so you won’t have to go to the Bid Form to set your cost.

You can also edit the description of the Window improvement on the Custom table to mention the solar screen application.
